Turkey Sliders with Garlic Aioli
Hey y'all! I know it's been a while, but I've been busy whipping up some new recipes since I moved into my new digs in San Francisco! More on that later...
With all the fresh produce in the Golden State, I had to take advantage -- especially using fresh greens, gorgeous fruits and vegetables (I'm looking at you, creamy avocados). I know I'm a bit behind, but here's something I whipped up for our salute to the USA, 4th of July BBQ fare that is...
As American as it is to have hotdogs and hamburgers on our nation's birthday, I wanted to spruce things up (and health things up, a little...) with these little savory sliders. By replacing beef with turkey, good ol' fashion ketchup and mustard with garlic aioli, and iceberg lettuce with power greens, these sliders were a big hit.
It's nothing too fancy and involves no greater effort than throwing beef patties and weiners on a grill! Here's how you can whip up this simple recipe -- for anytime of the year!
What's you'll need:
1 lb of lean ground turkey
1/4 cup of onions, minced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 egg
1 tbsp olive oil
Avocados, sliced.
Power greens -- typically a combo of spinach, arugula, etc. Arugula by itself would also work.
"King's Hawaiian" sweet rolls (my latest obsession..)
Combine ingredients in a bowl and mix (hands are your best tool). Once throughly combined, make small patties, about 3 inches in diameter. Cook in grill or pan for about 4-5 minutes per side. Tip: make a small indent in the middle of the patty to avoid overplumping when cooking.
(Garlic Aioli)
1 cup mayonnaise (healthy alternative: Greek yogurt)
2 cloves garlic, chopped finely
1 lime for juice
S & P
Combined all the ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly. For best results, make this the night before so the flavors have a chance to come together. Tip: make aioli directly in a tupperware so you can throw it right in the fridge!
Slice rolls in half and spread garlic aioli on each side of the bun. Pile on power greens and slide one patty on bed of greens. Top with a few slices of avocado and cap the slider with top bun. Voila! Serve with a side of sweet potatoes fries and garlic aioli dipping sauce on the side.
